National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) Conference Recap

Michelle Lieberman
This is the 71st national conference, which hosted a wide range of keynote speakers, educational sessions and a large college fair.

Some of the sessions we attended were:
  • Transitioning from Small High Schools to Large Universities
  • The Common Application: Promoting College Access
  • What Admission Wants in an Essay: How to Instruct Your Students
  • Transition for Student Success: Best Practices from Four Community Colleges
  • College Abroad: A UK Case Study
  • Helping Students with Learning Differences Navigate Higher Education
These sessions, along with the speakers and fair, were very valuable to us as guidance counselors. We learned more about admission essentials and current topics in the admissions process. The conference allowed us to expand our knowledge of the field of admission and meet peers from around the world.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
