This event is an opportunity for students to share their classroom experiences with their grandparents and members of their extended families. This was the largest-ever Grandfriends Day event at Greenwood and it was a special day for everyone.
The day began with breakfast in the Lodge. The school cafe provided our guests and students with delicious pastries and treats. While they enjoyed light snacks and refreshments, students and their grandfriends caught up and enjoyed each other’s company until organized tours of our expanded and renovated building began.
We also held a special assembly in our new performance theatre where grandfriends were treated to a variety of student talent, including a short video clip from this year’s Junior Play, The Lion King Jr.; a choir performance of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide”; and jazz performances of “I Want You Back” and “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love.”
The event was a huge success thanks to our teachers and staff, cafe staff, and the student ambassadors and volunteers who provided informative tours for our grandfriends. Many thanks to all involved – we couldn’t have done it without you.
We especially thank the grandfriends who joined us. We hope to see you next year!
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
