Grizzlies Earn Great Results at OFSAA Events

Our Grizzlies were represented at both the OFSAA Mountain Biking and Track & Field events, with many students earning medals or personal best times.
Between Thursday, June 1 and Saturday, June 3, Greenwood track & field athletes participated in the extensive OFSAA Track & Field Championships at Mary Ann Sills Park in Belleville. Students qualified for the finals at previous meets in May, so they were primed for competition.

Three Grizzlies came home with excellent results from the Championships: Jess Tinney ('18) earned first place in the Seated Shot Put and 200m Wheelchair events (her second year defending the 200m title). Aly White ('18) placed seventh in the 1500m Open Girls Steeplechase and ran a personal best, and Robyn Perry ('20) placed fifth in the Midget Girls 3000m and sixth in the Midget Girls 1500m, running personal bests in both races.

At the OFSAA-sanctioned Mountain Bike event, Greenwood was represented for the first time by our mountain biking team. The competition happened on Friday, June 2 at Durham Forest, where four bikers raced to fourth place overall. Jack Ciotlos ('19), Connor Ciotlos ('20), Thomas Purdy ('20), and Cole Borthwick ('20) all worked hard to prepare for the event, and their perseverance paid off! All four placed in the top 20 racers, with Jack landing in second place and Connor in third. Amazing work, boys!

Congratulations to all of the participants that made it to these events, and to those Grizzlies that challenged themselves to push their limits.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
