Junior Play Takes a Frank and Funny Look at Serious Themes

Erin Taylor, Communications Officer
13 tells the story of Evan Goldman, played by Grade 8 student Lisa Fireman, who moves from New York City to the small town of Appleby, Indiana, shortly before his bar mitzvah. Upon his arrival, he is immersed in the complicated social scene at his new school, and must learn to decide between doing what is popular and what is right.

The play explored themes that are relatable to any student: the difficulties of navigating social circles, fitting in, standing out, and making and losing friends. The cast approached difficult topics with frankness, honesty, and a sense of humour.

A big thank you to the cast, crew, and teachers who made this year’s Junior Play possible.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
