On February 6, students explored ways that they can venture further in their careers. They got valuable career insight from professionals in Careers Morning.
During Careers Morning, Grade 9-12 students had the opportunity to attend two career information sessions featuring volunteer guest speakers from the Greenwood community including parents, past parents, and alumni. It was a great experience for students to hear from the 16 alumni, because those speakers were recently in the same position current Greenwood students are now. Seeing the many different paths Greenwood alumni have taken really demonstrates that the potential career opportunities for students are diverse and exciting.
At Careers Morning, the speakers themselves emphasized this diversity of career choice and potential paths in life. From medicine to law to architecture to film and graphic design, there were speakers from a broad range of industries. Students selected two sessions for topics that resonated with their interests. Over the course of the 45 minute presentations, they got solid information about the realities of working in these fields, and had lots of time for questions.
Students can use this insight to further their goal setting and career plans. It can inform their course selection and for Grade 12s, it can help them plan to get the most out of their postsecondary destinations.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
