Spring Athletics Season Results

Sam Clark, Director, Athletics
Our golf teams competed well this season, with the Senior Boys qualifying for the CISAA championships. Up against some strong teams, they ended the day — and season — finishing seventh overall.

The mountain biking team, in its inaugural season, has posted some excellent results. They’ve completed the 4-race Durham High School Series, with riders on the podium at each event, including two first place finishes. On June 8th, all four riders on the team will compete at OFSAA. Good luck to the team ahead of that big event.

Our rugby program enjoyed a strong season. The senior boys squad qualified for the CISAA championships where they finished a respectable 4th after facing some strong teams on the day. The senior girls also performed well, pulling out a come-from-behind win in their last round-robin game to earn second place overall.

The junior boys had an excellent regular season, entering the championships as first seeds. They played well last Wednesday and finished second on point differential after a three-way tie for first place. Finally, last Friday, the undefeated U14 Touch Team travelled to CDS for the championships. They went undefeated on the day, not allowing a single try to be scored against them, and won a tightly contested final by one try to nil. Congratulations on their CISAA championship.

Our senior girls softball team also had a great season, going undefeated in the regular season, earning the right to host the playoffs. They beat CDS heavily in the semi-final before losing a thrilling final to Lakefield by one run.

Our senior tennis teams enjoyed some good performances this spring, but unfortunately, neither team qualified for the playoffs this year.

The U14 Track team competed at the CISAA championships last Friday. They worked hard and ended the day with some strong performances and personal bests. The senior track team is still competing with a number of our athletes representing Greenwood at the Metro’s tomorrow as they work towards qualifying for OFSAA. We wish all of those athletes good luck over the next couple of weeks.

This Spring we had two U14 Ultimate teams. The B team, mostly comprised of players from Grade 7, competed hard and developed their skills. The A team qualified for the playoffs where they lost a tough game in the semi-finals.

The Junior Ultimate team started the year strongly, winning an early season invitational tournament. Thye qualified for the playoffs where they lost to eventual winners Bayview Glen in the semifinals. They came back, beating RSGC/Branksome to take third place.

Finally, our Senior Ultimate team had an excellent season. Competing in Division One against some much bigger schools, they made it to the final game. They faced off against combined Crescent & Havergal team, losing to finish a very respectable second.
