Class Is In Session For Teachers at the Summer Institute

Erin Taylor, Communications Officer
Classes might be done for Greenwood students, but for teachers, school is now in session. After a week of Professional Development training for all teachers from June 18-22, the Summer Institute begins.

From June 25-29, the Summer Institute is an opportunity for teachers to further refine and develop courses, focusing on student engagement. They study techniques for co-teaching in a Learning Community and strategies for enabling personalized and self-paced learning using blended learning tools. Teachers share best practices for developing curriculum that supports student’s ability to personalize their learning, and ways of integrating diverse curriculum.

This year, 21 Greenwood teachers will be participating. They will break into grade-specific groups to work on effective adviser methods for each age group. Geography, Math, and Health courses are also being refined. In health, there will be a special focus on well-being, supporting the work on mental health and well-being being done within the Greenwood community.

Our teachers are looking forward to engaging discussion sessions. They will bring what they learn to their teaching, improving programming for students.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
