Grizzlies Rock the Ontario Summer Games

Erin Taylor, Communications Officer
Four Grizzlies headed to London, Ontario, for the Ontario Summer Games this August. The Games featured over 3,500 participants from all across the province. Athletes, who had to qualify in order to compete, ranged in age from 12-18. The Games are only held once every two years, so these four athletes were ready to give each event their all.

Noah Jonsson (‘22) was out on the water, competing in single and team kayaking in a gruelling number of races crammed into the two-day competition. Together with his team, he went home with two bronze medals in the four-person kayak events.

Jack Ciotlos (‘19) and Thomas Purdy (‘19)—two of the organizers behind Greenwood’s own mountain biking team—brushed off the punishingly hot weather as they competed. Thomas gave impressive performances, including an eleventh-place finish in a highly competitive division. Jack won two hard-earned bronze medals. The two also competed together on a relay team, placing seventh.

Connor Ciotlos (‘20) competed in the individual triathalon—an achievement in itself—and on a mixed relay team. He held onto his team’s third-place position through the course of his leg of the relay, helping his team snag a bronze medal.

It was an exciting couple of days of intense competition for these Grizzlies, as they achieved some personal goals, competing against some of the best athletes from across the province.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
