Every year, Greenwood celebrates our Spirit Day in the beautiful outdoors. This year, the weather didn’t disappoint, and a hot, bright, sunshiny day greeted us after the threat of rain!
The activities first began at Greenwood, where the Houses practised their House Cheers once more and got decorated with bodypaint to show off their House allegiance. Many students showed up in fun costumes as well!
Luckily, the rains that had persisted overnight and into the early morning stopped before the buses loaded with students arrived at Serena Gundy Park. Students showed off their House spirit, adorned in their House colours, and competed in various activities throughout the day.
Eat More Jello
To kick off Spirit Day activities in the park, House Captains of all eight Houses competed in a new activity, “Eat More Jello”, where one blindfolded House Captain has to feed the other House Captain Jello. The House that eats the most jello (without spilling too much) wins.
First Place: Bison
Second Place: Trillium
Third Place: Hawks

Cheer-Off Results
Greenwood’s traditional House Cheer-Off has each House perform multiple cheers as a group. Guest judges Anthony Costa, Shai Kohen and Heather Thomas scored the Houses on various aspects, such as creativity, cohesion, spirit etc.
First Place: Timberwolves
Second Place: Onyx
Third Place: Redwood
Fourth Place: Hemlock
Fifth Place: Hawks
Sixth Place: Bison
Seventh Place: Trillium
Eighth Place: Lynx
This marks the third year in a row where the Timberwolves have won the House Cheer-Off.
The Houses then split into two groups of four, with one group competing in either the Sponge Relay Race or Hula Hoop Snake Race before switching the activity.
Sponge Relay Race
The teams were tasked to transfer as much water as they could from one bucket to another only using a sponge. However, if a student was tagged by a Grade 12 while trying to make the trek between buckets, they would have to squeeze out the water from their sponges and return to the back of the line. The Houses with the most water transferred won.
First Place: Redwood & Bison
Second Place: Lynx & Trillium
Third Place: Onyx & Hemlock
Fourth Place: Timberwolves & Hawks
Hula Hoop Snake Race
Each House lined up holding hands and had to get hula hoops to the last person in line without breaking contact with each other. The Houses with the most hula hoops to pass through won.

Tug-of-War
The tug-of-war competition consists of three rounds in a process of elimination.

The second round results:
In the third and final round, Hemlock House won the tug-of-war against Timberwolves House.
Staff Huckle Buckle
After lunch, staff members participated in a Huckle Buckle challenge as the Grade 12s set up for the Fun Fair. With their partner, the staff must perform the pose dictated by the caller. The slowest pair or pairs performing the incorrect pose get eliminated.
First Place: Onyx
Second Place: Hemlock
Third Place: Lynx
Fourth Place: Hawks
Fun Fair
The Grade 12s set up multiple activity stations where younger students can attend to participate and earn a stamp on their activity passport. These activities include three-legged race, egg toss, face paint, trivia, lawn bowling and so much more. The ranking is determined by how many stamps each House earned.
First place: Timberwolves
Second place: Hemlock
Third place: Redwood
Fourth place: Bison
Tire Derby
Spirit Day concludes with another large group activity. This time the Houses are again split into two groups with four Houses in each. In these groups, there is a circular space left open in the middle with one half of a House lined up on one side and the other half across from them. The Houses must roll their tire to the other half and have the tire reach the peg in the ground to score a point.
First Place: Onyx
Second Place: Trillium
Third Place: Bison
Fourth Place: Hemlock
