Concluding a Stellar Spring Season at the Spring Athletics Assembly
Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
Our entire school gathered on May 27 to celebrate another stellar Spring Athletic season and cap-off a fulsome year of athletics here at Greenwood. It has been a speedy and intense term, with 20 athletic teams, ten Grade 12 spotlight events and two CISAA championship wins all in the span of just six weeks.
This assembly also acknowledged the efforts of the Athletics team and Athletics Committee to make the program here at Greenwood stand out. This year saw a total of 25 Grade 12 spotlight events spread across the three seasons for which the Committee provided the handpainted posters. Committee members also volunteered time to help keep score across numerous home games. The interest in athletics here peaked with the newly introduced Friday Afternoon Lights and our own Hockey Day.
Greenwood staff, Tyler Thibault was recognized at the assembly as Coach of the Year. Students Yoni Jungreis '25 and Ava Myers '25 spoke about their experience having him as a coach and how his passion and enthusiasm made their time on the Flag Football and Basketball teams memorable.
It was also a bittersweet moment for the current execs of the Athletics Committee, James Fisher Holy ‘25, Ainsley Parker ‘25 and Abi Reid ‘25, as they close the chapter on their athletic careers at Greenwood and move on to their postsecondary journeys. Each exec spoke highly of their time as a Grizzly. The incoming Athletics Committee execs, Theo Maceroni ‘26, Stella Seed ‘26 and Olivia Wellman ‘26, applauded the outgoing execs for their hard work this year and left them with the parting words, “Once a Grizzly, always a Grizzly.”

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
