The Terry Fox Walk/Run 2025

Tihmily Li, Senior Officer, Communications & Marketing
Each year, Greenwood supports the Terry Fox Foundation with an annual run or walk in the Mount Pleasant cemetery. The Terry Fox Run is now a fall tradition in Canada with hundreds of communities hosting their own events in memory of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. On September 26, the school community ran and walked through Mount Pleasant Cemetery for this year’s Terry Fox Walk/Run.

Greenwood’s community raised funds across two weeks to support cancer research either through the online Terry Fox Foundation portal or in-person via the Toonies for Terry drive. Each House competed against one another to see who would raise the most money. Houses with the most donations raised and the fastest runners earned House points towards their House Cup standings.

For this year’s online fundraising, Hawks raised the most money, while Lynx was second most and Bison in third. For the in-person Toonies for Terry fundraising, Timberwolves raised the most cash with Hawks in second and Trillium in third.

In terms of the fastest runners, Redwood had the most followed by Lynx then Trillium. In the full-school assembly on October 20, we recognized the top three runners from each running section, each receiving a commemorative t-shirt.

In total, Greenwood raised $15,289.55 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Way to go, Greenwood!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
