Greenwood Alum Tom Wilson Wins With Capitals in Stanley Cup Finals

Greenwood alumnus Tom Wilson made the Grizzlies proud last week as he helped win the Stanley Cup for the Washington Capitals. This is the first time that the Capitals have won the Stanley Cup in the franchise’s history. Wilson was a vital part of that achievement, having scored 15 points in the 21 playoff games.

Wilson, who plays right wing for the Capitals, attended Greenwood and played on the Senior Boys Hockey Team. His former coaches, Mr. Moritsugu and Mr. Lougheed, were thrilled with his professional success.

“We appreciated very much the fact that he played on the school team while also honouring his commitment to his GTHL team, especially in his draft year in Grade 10,” Coach Moritsugu said. “Tom was a huge presence on the team — both on the ice and in the dressing room — despite his relatively young age. We have followed his Jr A and NHL careers closely and are really happy for him and his family.”

Even though Tom has had a busy hockey career, he always finds time to stay in touch with Greenwood. He has spoken at assembly, tries to connect with Greenwood American history students when they visit Washington, and recently had a cameo role in a House point announcement.

The Wilson family has a deep attachment to Greenwood, as Tom’s brothers Pete and Jamie graduated from Greenwood in 2007 and 2014. Tom’s mom, Neville, has been a member of Greenwood’s Board of Directors since 2015. Our congratulations to the entire Wilson family!
