Meet Greenwood’s Next Head Boy and Head Girl

Greenwood’s Head Boy and Head Girl are leaders and role models within the school community. They greet students at the front doors every morning, help run events, do morning announcements, speak at assemblies, and try to get to know every student and staff member within the Greenwood community. We have had a great year with James Southey and Rachel Keaveney in these positions, but it is now time for them to pass the torch to the next year’s leaders.

This year, we had two boys and six girls running for these positions. They spent many hours developing campaigns to show fellow students the changes they would like to see in the school and how they will be effective leaders. They each created a poster to put on display in the Lodge and made themselves available in the morning so students and staff could ask them questions about their campaign.

When election day arrived, each candidate gave a speech in front of the entire school. They introduced themselves, talked about their involvement in school activities throughout the years and their goals as leaders, and explained changes they wish to see in the new school year. Every single candidate showed great leadership potential and spoke passionately about their commitment to making positive changes at Greenwood. They all deserve to be recognized for working hard on their campaign and for standing up and giving a speech to the entire school.

After the speeches, everyone in the school had an opportunity to vote; the winners were announced later in the afternoon.

We are pleased to announce that our new Head Girl is Leah Aspden and our new Head Boy is John Naprawa.

Leah is confident she will turn ideas into actions and create change for everyone at Greenwood. “As Head Girl, I'll always be open and very approachable," Leah says.

John is also determined to create positive changes in the Greenwood community and believes his passion will allow him to do amazing things. "It's extremely important for all grades to feel a part of Greenwood," says John.

Their passion for change, friendly personalities, heavy involvement in school activities and inspirational speeches made Leah and John well deserving of this position.

Congrats to Leah and John!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
