Venture Further Together

Sarah Bruce, Principal
Being “in the moment” is so important for our well-being and for making the most of each day. Given the uncertainty and cause for worry we have faced over the last year and a half, looking to the future and “futurizing” with a doom-and-gloom lens has been hard to avoid for many of us.

Practicing mindfulness on a daily basis, even if only for a few minutes, is one way we can combat this tendency to constantly wonder “what if?” Some of my best lived days since the pandemic began have been ones that were purposeful and where I focused on what I could control to make the most of the present.

With vaccination rates continuing to climb in Ontario, we at Greenwood have been looking to the future with a sense of optimism. We have spent the last several months planning for all of the exciting opportunities we can bring back for students, and this positive attitude has already resulted in almost three months of a fulsome return to school. We are delighted to have brought back athletics, outdoor education, some field trips, school plays and more both safely and successfully.

We have also been looking to the future in a way that is not just positive, but inspiring. Over the last several months, Greenwood’s Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team have worked closely with Level5 Strategy to create Venture Further Together, our Strategic Plan for 2021-2026. Reflecting input from staff, students, parents, alumni and past parents, this plan charts an ambitious and exciting future for Greenwood.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
