Winning Gold for Canada

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
When we last caught up with Piper Grober ‘23, she had just been selected to represent Canada in the 2022 IIHF U18 Women’s World Hockey Championships. At the time, the championships were set to begin in Sweden but were cancelled due to a spike of COVID-19 cases around the world. Luckily, the IIHF managed to reschedule the championships to take place in Wisconsin, USA between June 6–13. This finally gave Piper the opportunity to compete on the international stage.

On June 13, Canada faced off against long-time rivals USA for gold. Canada led the USA to a 3-0 deficit by the second period. The American team responded with 2 goals in the second period in an effort to even up the score. Canada remained strong on defence and won gold with a final score of 3-2. Piper finished the championships with one assist and a +2 plus-minus stat. Congratulations to Piper for this well-earned achievement!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
