Spring Athletics Awards

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
On May 26, we held our Spring Athletics Awards assembly where we celebrated not only a fantastic season, but an overall stellar year for athletics. Even though the spring athletic season is short compared to the seasons in the fall and winter, it was nevertheless packed full of excellent teamwork, grit and determination.

Athletics Committee execs, Daniel Bender ‘23 and Ainsley Kane ‘23, each spoke about the impact that Greenwood athletics has had on their lives. Both encouraged their peers to try out athletics and grow from their athletic experiences.

Four teams brought home CISAA championships which tally up the year’s total number of CISAA championships to nine, setting a brand new record for Greenwood’s athletics. This year, our Grizzlies prove that we are a veritable contender in a variety of sports and can achieve great results through hard work and perseverance.

Teams that won in the CISAA Championships:
  • U14 Co-Ed Ultimate DI
  • Sr. Boys’ Slo-Pitch
  • Jr. Boys’ Rugby
  • Sr. Girls’ Rugby
Michele Horak ‘24 also qualified for Track and Field OFSAA which will take place in June. A final round-up of our spring athletics season can be found here.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
