Anticipating the 2023 Terry Fox Run

Thank you, Greenwood! After today’s reminder about Friday’s Terry Fox Run was sent to parents/guardians, you contributed more than $4,000 in under one hour! We are getting closer to our goal of raising $15,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Year after year, the Greenwood community comes together to support this cause.
It demonstrates how important this annual event has become at Greenwood – uniting students, staff, and families in the spirit of compassion and hope.

Terry Fox embarked on his "Marathon of Hope" in April 1980, running 5,373 kilometres across Canada to raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer. He was 19 years old. His remarkable journey and unwavering determination inspired countless individuals worldwide to join the battle against this relentless disease. His legacy continues more than 40 years later, with communities around the country still joining together to raise money for important cancer research.

Cancer has touched the lives of so many in our community, and this run holds a special place in our hearts. It's a day when we come together, remembering those we've lost, supporting those currently facing this disease, and celebrating the survivors. Each step we take on the route is a reminder that progress is being made in the search for a cure.

This year’s Terry Fox Run at Greenwood includes the introduction of our innovative inter-grade fundraising initiative, Twoonies for Terry. Students from different grades will collaborate to raise additional funds for the cause. It's an opportunity for our students to learn about teamwork, empathy, and philanthropy. Not only will this bring us closer as a school, but it also promises to make the event more meaningful and impactful.

Furthermore, the 2023 Terry Fox Run marks the first house challenge of the year. Our school's eight houses will compete in their house colours. Some will race the route and others may take in the fall colours on a more leisurely stroll. Either approach is welcome!

We look forward to seeing the Greenwood community come together this Friday for the Terry Fox Run, knowing that our collective efforts will contribute to Terry Fox's vision of a world without cancer. Together, we can make a difference and create lasting memories for our students, all while supporting a cause that remains close to our hearts.

Thank you for your continued support.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
