Recreation Space Development Project Update

Alexis Dobranowski, Manager, Communications
Phase 1 of demolition on the Recreation Space Development Project is now complete.

The commercial structures on the Mount Pleasant Avenue parcel of the future recreation space have been removed along with the debris. The abatement work is complete and the structures on Balliol have been emptied.

City of Toronto officials are expected to discuss the outstanding application for the permits required for demolition of the residential structures on Balliol Street at a February 22 committee meeting.

“The Greenwood Campus Development Committee meets regularly to discuss the project and expedite the process where possible,” said Sarah Bruce, Principal. “As part of the preparations to optimize the functioning of the new space, we are undergoing a traffic study. And we are working with various providers to determine the finishing details such as turf and other structures.

“As soon as necessary permits are obtained, we are poised and ready to go ahead with the next phase. We remain hopeful that the recreation space will be ready in Fall 2024.”

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
