Engaging Students Outside the Classroom

Allan Hardy, Principal
The best way to get the most out of attending school at Greenwood is by engaging in a range of activities outside of the classroom.  Here are three examples of terrific student engagement throughout the month of November.

Our Junior Musical:  This year we are staging Disney’s version of The Little Mermaid.  The cast gave us sneak preview of two numbers from the show last week;hopefully, all three shows will sell-out, so let’s do our best to support all of the students involved in this production. Pick up your tickets online here.

Project Impact: Three of our senior students initiated this project last year, which involves preparing and serving a meal to people who make use of the Out of the Cold program. This service learning activity provides senior students an opportunity to provide authentic support for people outside the Greenwood community. Hopefully, we can emulate the terrific example set by the Class of 2014, who engaged actively in this project.

DECA:  DECA is an organization that provides case competitions and mentoring for high school students. Some of our senior business students will be competing against other high schools in the regional competition next week.  On previous occasions, Greenwood students have done extremely well in this competition; I am confident that this year’s contingent will continue this trend!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
