Ways of Giving

The impact of gifts at Greenwood is reflected in the happy smiles, stories and success of our students. Since 2002, our donor community of parents, alumni, staff and friends has given the gift of knowledge and opportunity.
As an independent school and registered charity, Greenwood relies on philanthropic donations as an important source of financial support to enable our students to venture further together.

There are many ways for you to make your gift to Greenwood. Learn more below.

Thank you for considering a gift to Greenwood.

Annual and Leadership Giving

Each year, gifts to our Greenwood Fund from the community support a number of key priority areas that enhance the student experience.

This year, our key priority areas include but are not limited to:
  • Experiential learning activities in and outside of the classroom
  • Health and Well-being programming
  • Professional Development for staff (which directly impacts a strong learning experience for students)
  • Arts and Athletics equipment or programming
  • Inclusion, Belonging and Pluralism

Class Gifts

Class gifts establish permanent, enduring legacies for future students. Funds raised are invested in the school’s endowment, which holds investments in perpetuity and only spends the interest each year to ensure long-term sustainability. Endowed funds are managed by the Greenwood College School Foundation.

  • Leaving Class Gifts: Each year, a permanent endowment fund is established in honour of the leaving class. Families make a collective donation to celebrate their time at Greenwood. Past funds have supported Financial Assistance, Outdoor Education, and the Student Success Centre.
  • Alumni Class & Reunion Gifts: Alumni often honour milestone reunions (5, 10, 15 Year, etc.) by making a donation to their Class Fund. These funds contribute to the Class Fund’s designated area.

Major Gifts

Major gifts significantly advance our strategic priorities and often transform the school. Gifts of $50,000 and above are considered major gifts.

Major gifts are often directed to special projects or establishing endowment funds and can be pledged over multiple years. We currently seek support for our Greenspace, and endowments for financial assistance, professional development, and program sustainability.

Major donors are recognized throughout the school and on our Wernham-West Wall (for cumulative giving over $100,000)

The Honour Roll: Recognizing our Incredible Educators

The Honour Roll is an opportunity for our community to express gratitude for the incredible educators who shape our children's lives.
By making a gift to the school in one or several teachers’ honour, you directly support the programs and resources that enrich our students' educational experience.

How to make an Honour Roll gift:
  1. Make a gift to the school's Annual Fund.
  2. Select a designation of your choice.
  3. Designate it as a Tribute gift in honour of someone.
  4. Specify the teacher or teachers by typing in their name(s) in the Gift In Honour Of field.
Honoured teachers will receive a special card notifying them of your thoughtful gift.

Planned / Legacy Gifts (Forever Green Circle)

Leaving a legacy is a beautiful way of supporting the next generation and ensuring your connection to Greenwood lives on.

A planned or legacy gift is a donation arranged in the present to be made available for use in the future, often passing through your estate and helping to offset taxes. These gifts are retained within the Greenwood College School Foundation and, unless otherwise specified, are added to the school’s endowment.

Donors who choose to include Greenwood in their estate plans will be recognized with membership in the Forever Green Circle.

For more information on making a bequest and to notify us of your intentions, please contact a member of the ACE Team.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
