Winter 2023 Athletics Awards

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
Continuing our strong showing from the fall athletic season, this winter athletic season boasted a jam-packed schedule with 19 teams and 354 athletes participating. Students and staff gathered in the gym on March 3 to celebrate the accomplishments of our athletes.

Support for our athletics program involves the whole Greenwood community. Will Salvarinas, Director, Athletics, took time in the assembly to recognize the contributions from all. For making Greenwood’s winter athletic season a success, we want to recognize:
  • Our facilities staff for preparing our gyms for 76 home games.
  • Our Athletics Committee members, who helped to provide scorekeeping in 221 time slots.
  • Our reception team and business office staff, who arranged for transport to 112 off-site events.
  • Our 31 dedicated coaches, who poured many hours into practice and coaching.

Teams that won in the CISAA Championships:
  • U14 Boys’ Basketball DII
  • Sr. Girls’ Snowboarding
  • Sr. Girls’ Volleyball DII
Our Sr. Boys’ Snowboarding team also captured gold at OFSAA. A full round-up of our winter athletics season can be found here.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
