In the early morning hours on Saturday, November 25, Greenwood’s Robotics Club gathered and departed for Oshawa’s Ontario Tech University (OTU). In three teams, the students competed in OTU’s annual engineering outreach robotics competition. Every team must design a robot that can fit on a 20 by 20 centimetre square in a stationary position. If the robot satisfies the size restrictions, the team may then compete.
The competition involved an obstacle course, which the robots had to navigate within three minutes. But wait, there’s a twist — there were other robots competing for the finish line in the same obstacle course at the same time! More points were awarded to the first robot to cross the finish line. Additional points were rewarded if one team’s robot manages to disable or knock off another team’s robot.
Greenwood’s teams had a lot of fun and learned a ton at the competition. One of our teams won the Women in STEM award at the competition. Congratulations to all the teams!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
