Igniting Creativity - Catch Up with Luke Farwell '19
Luke Farwell’s interest in videography and photography began at an early age, but it was Greenwood’s Media Arts program that really sealed the deal on his passion for creativity.
“I was literally in the Media Lab every single day in Grade 11 and 12,” he recalls. “Film, graphic design, advertising – I took every course and opportunity I could. While my interest started in Grade 5 or 6, it was Greenwood that really helped build the skills and discipline I needed to succeed.”
Luke says his Greenwood teachers nurtured his abilities and gave him unwavering support as he explored what it meant to work in film. After completing an undergraduate degree, Luke now works in-house on the video production team at Canadian Tire – an organization he was drawn to for its values.
“During the recent employee fundraising campaign for Jumpstart, Canadian Tire’s charity committed to providing kids equal access to sport and physical activity, I had the opportunity to lend my talent to create videos for the campaign and it was very successful,” Luke says. “It felt great to give back – something else Greenwood instilled in me.”
Luke continues to explore new and creative ways for meaningful video storytelling; he’s enjoyed learning and experimenting with drone photography in recent years.
“My Dad jokes that our family events and trips are very well-documented,” he says. “And it’s true because I just love capturing moments for family and friends.”
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
