Reflecting on "The Prom"

Congratulations to the cast, crew and pit band of this year’s full-school musical, The Prom, who staged four energetic performances earlier this month.

The Prom is a satirical musical comedy where celebrity ego and traditional values clash as a group of Broadway stars force a small town into the spotlight, sparking a chaotic journey toward understanding.

Fun costumes, a professional set and whimsical choreography left the audience nearly dancing in the aisles of Greenwood Theatre.

For cast member Elora Colbert ‘27, being involved in The Prom was a memorable and rewarding time.

“It was such an incredible experience to be part of The Prom! Not only was the show itself so meaningful and fun, but we even had the opportunity to hear from one of the writers of the musical, Bob Martin. Hearing his thoughts about why this musical matters so much, along with his well wishes for our performances, made the experience even more special.

This truly could not have been a better musical to end my time at Greenwood, especially as I prepare to leave for a new school. I will always treasure the memories I made on stage through productions like Matilda!, The Addams Family, Pippin, and now The Prom. Performing was incredibly rewarding, but so was having the chance to work with such a talented and supportive directing team: Ms. Borden and Mr. Piasetski. I learned so much from both of them, not only about performing, but also about confidence, creativity, and collaboration.”

Elora has some advice for any students who saw the show and are considering getting involved next year: try it!

“Being part of plays and musicals creates such strong bonds between people from different grades. I am so grateful to everyone who helped make this experience unforgettable. Thank you to the cast, crew, directors, and everyone who supported us along the way.”

A huge congratulations and well done to all those involved:

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
