Just before March Break, the school community celebrated the individual and team accomplishments for the winter athletic season. Following a busy fall season, the winter season was also jam packed with 22 teams training and competing. Now with winter (hopefully) in the rearview window, here’s a final recap of the season’s achievements.
Congratulations to the U14 DII Boys’ Basketball, Sr Girls’ Alpine Skiing and Sr Girls’ Snowboarding teams who won CISAA Championships this term! The Sr Boys’ Basketball team also presented their CAIS Tournament Championship pennant to Ms. Thomas. The Jr DIII Girls’ Volleyball team, Sr Boys’ Snowboarding team and Sr Curling team also performed exceptionally well, each earning silver in their respective CISAA Championship games.
During the CISAA Swimming Championships, the swimming team’s notable results were: Jaimee Ruby ‘27 finished in the top 10 for 50-metre breaststroke; Lilly Cloth ‘27 finished 5th in the 100-metre freestyle; Arya Codilla ‘30 finished 4th in both the 50-metre butterfly and 100-metre freestyle and also finished 5th in the individual medley; and Jake Johnston ‘31 placed 3rd in the 50-metre freestyle swim and 4th in the 50-metre butterfly.
With their successes during the regular CISAA season, Sr Alpine Skiing and the Sr Snowboarding teams went on to compete at OFSAA. Facing competitors from across the entire province, Greenwood’s Sr Girls’ Open Alpine Skiing team placed 3rd in giant slalom and 2nd in slalom races – both remarkable podium results – while the Sr Boys’ Open Alpine Skiing team finished 7th in the giant slalom race and 6th slalom race. Individual skiers Olivia Wellman ‘26 finished 9th in the giant slalom race and Riley Wellman ‘28 finished 10th in the slalom race.
For the Snowboarding teams at OFSAA, the Sr Boys’ snowboarding team won bronze against Ontario’s best with Nicholas O’Dwyer ‘26 winning an individual bronze medal. The team went on to compete at the Provincial Bordercross event where Elliot Veneziano ‘29 captured silver and Samantha Jaskolka ‘26 and Nicholas O’Dwyer ‘26 both won bronze.

What a fantastic way to say goodbye to winter and usher in the spring season!
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
