"A Different School of Thought": Greenwood’s 2026–2036 Strategic Plan

Greenwood College School is thrilled to officially launch our 2026–2036 Strategic Plan: A Different School of Thought. Built upon our founding principles and shaped by comprehensive community input, this 10-year strategy sets an inspiring path forward as Greenwood continues to lead and innovate in independent education.

Greenwood has always been defined by a distinct perspective on education: success is not a singular, rigid formula. It is personal, discovered and continuously nurtured within a high-challenge, high-support environment. As we enter our next chapter, A Different School of Thought reinforces our commitment to helping every student reach their personal best, develop durable human skills and discover who they truly are.

"We are so excited to launch this strategy for Greenwood’s future," says Heather Thomas, Principal and Head of School. "When I look at Greenwood, I see an extraordinary community where students are known deeply as individuals, challenged academically, and supported across every step of their journey. A Different School of Thought is a declaration of who we are at our best. Over the coming decade, we will deepen our global leadership in personalized learning and transformative experiences, preparing our students to think critically, adapt creatively and thrive in a complex and changing world. There is truly no place like Greenwood, and there is nothing like a Greenwood student!"

Our 10-year strategy is anchored by five key differentiators that define the Greenwood experience:
  • Guided Personalized Growth
    • Greenwood’s Adviser Program and distinct approach to personalized learning give every student the opportunity to thrive.
  • Student-Driven Experience
    • A customized experience enables every student to explore possibilities, strive for their personal best and develop future-ready skills.
  • Transformational Development
    • Challenging and engaging classroom and experiential opportunities inspire students to stretch and grow.
  • Student-Centred Dynamic Staff
    • Collaborative and adaptable staff know each student, understand their needs, and create optimistic environments that inspire learning.
  • Open Inclusive Community
    • Students belong to a vibrant community that values character and creates lifelong bonds.
This strategic plan is the direct result of a collaborative, year-long journey of listening. We gathered meaningful insights from students, staff, current parents, past families and alumni who shared their experiences and hopes for Greenwood’s future.

A heartfelt thank you to the Strategic Planning Committee, as well as our Board of Directors, for their leadership and vision throughout this process. Their dedication ensures that our strategy remains deeply rooted in Greenwood’s core values while guiding us toward an ambitious future.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
