The morning of this year’s Terry Fox Run saw a few scattered showers across midtown. Luckily by the first run, the skies had cleared. Rain or shine, Greenwood students and staff brought their motivation and House spirit. This annual tradition raises funds for the Terry Fox Foundation in support of cancer research and to carry on Terry Fox’s legacy.
The Terry Fox Run also serves as one of the first major House events in the school year. House points are up for grabs through raising money for the Terry Fox Foundation, racing on the day of the Run and for showing off their House spirit through creative costumes. As part of the in-person donation drive, House Captains collected change every morning from students arriving at school in the Toonies for Terry campaign. Families also had the opportunity to donate via the online portal. In total, this year Greenwood’s donation drive for the Terry Fox Foundation raised $11,592.45.
Here’s how all of the Houses ranked following the Terry Fox Run.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
