Families, students and staff gathered in Greenwood’s gyms last Friday to cheer on two senior teams, Girls’ Basketball and Boys’ Volleyball, for our third annual fall term Friday Afternoon Lights. To kick things off, the Athletics Committee execs introduced each team’s players to the crowd’s roaring applause. During the halftime break at the Senior Girls’ basketball game, spectators were invited to try and make a half-court shot. Friday Afternoon Lights was a great way for the entire Greenwood community to come together and show their school pride and support for the two teams.
The games were also Grade 12 Spotlight games. Grade 12 team members received special recognition at the end of the game for their participation as a Greenwood athlete.
Thank you to the fans and supporters who cheered on our teams as well as to Holy Trinity School for participating.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
