Results Are In: 2026 Parent/Guardian Engagement Survey
More than 100 Greenwood families participated in the 2026 Parent/Guardian Engagement Survey in the spring 2026. The survey was administered by a third-party vendor and provided insight into many aspects of school life. Survey results are considered by school leaders when planning future school programming and initiatives.
The survey invited families to share their experiences around topics like Greenwood’s welcoming community, communication about school initiatives, support of student learning, the development of positive behaviour, student safety, student time spent doing homework, and family support of learning at home.
Survey Results
Greenwood scored positive results in many measures (above 8 on a 10-point scale). In particular, parents/guardians feel:
- Welcome at the school;
- They are able to speak to their child’s Teachers and the appropriate school staff when the need arises;
- Informed about what is going on at school, with their child’s behaviour, and in their child’s learning;
- Reports on their child’s progress are easy to understand;
- Greenwood creates a supportive learning environment;
- Teachers show an interest in their child’s learning;
- Teachers have high expectations for homework;
- Greenwood students exhibit positive social behaviours and are aware of the school rules;
- Teachers devote appropriate time towards co-curricular activities;
- Students feel safe learning at Greenwood;
- Teachers support students who need extra support.
The survey results indicated the following areas for growth:
- Providing information about opportunities for their child’s future;
- Providing further parent education on student development and social-emotional needs at various ages and stages of their tween and teen years;
- Continuing to support students to develop positive friendships;
- Continuing to champion student belonging using a personalized approach to pluralism education;
- Continuing to find ways to reduce students’ screen time.
This year, feedback about Greenwood’s uniform was intentionally solicited. The themes that emerged include:
- Appreciation for the increased uniform expectations;
- Further increases to uniform expectations wanted;
- Desire for more first-dress days.
Next Steps
Greenwood’s Director Team reviewed the survey results and determined next steps to address the areas of growth.
Communication about Students’ Futures
Providing information about students’ future opportunities was an area of focus throughout 2025-2026. This measure was identified as an area of growth in the spring 2025 parent/guardian survey and improvement was seen in this area in the 2026 survey.
The Guidance and Postsecondary Team will continue to intentionally broaden the scope of postsecondary and future pathways presented to students. And, they will intentionally present information about non-traditional pathways in addition to traditional future options.
Parent/Guardian Education about Teen Developmental Needs
The spring 2026 survey included several positive comments about the great work Greenwood is doing to support students’ development, particularly in the areas of social media awareness and learning to listen to others. Parents/Guardians also indicated that they are not always aware of all that Greenwood is doing to support the development of their child(ren).
This year, the Parent/Guardian Speaker Series will focus on Personalization, Connection and Community. One aspect of this series will focus on the needs of tweens and teens from a variety of perspectives. Greenwood will host guest experts and run workshops focused on the needs of tweens and teens at various ages and stages of their growth and development. Topics will include tween/teen social and emotional needs, well-being and how Greenwood intentionally works with students at various stages of development. The sessions will include ways that parents might continue this work at home.
The series will also provide sessions focused on how the school supports intellectual character development, approaches to AI use, the advantages of a co-ed learning environment, thought diversity, the development of sturdy and durable skills, as well as providing insights into how Greenwood develops its incredible dynamic staff.
Support Students to Develop Positive Social Skills
We often highlight the importance of social health on overall well-being. Advisers, teachers and Greenwood’s Social Workers will continue to prioritize working with students on social skill development, expansion of social circles, identifying positive and negative interactions, building resilience and being kind to each other.
Greenwood partnered with The Social Institute in January 2026, providing Advisers in Grade 7 and 8 with resources to support the development of social skills in relation to trending social phenomena. The Grade 7 and 8 Advisers are using research-backed methods to build students’ ability to:
- critically analyze AI use and its impact on social connection;
- understand the unrealistic impacts of influencers on youth;
- develop group work and problem solving skills;
- build their time management, executive functioning and future long term planning skills;
- develop physical world friendships.
The Grade 7 and 8 Adviser team will continue to use this platform and its resources throughout 2026-2027.

Continue to Champion Student Belonging and Use a Personalized Approach to Pluralism Education
Pluralism - an ethic that deepens our diversity, inclusion, and equity work - is at the core of developing community and belonging at Greenwood. We value all forms of diversity (diversity of identity, beliefs and political viewpoints), seeing differences as opportunities to learn from one another and enrich our community. At Greenwood, everyone belongs.
The Pluralism Team works with staff and students to ensure belonging, inclusion, and diversity is nurtured at Greenwood. The team is committed to ensuring pluralistic values are actioned on a daily basis. They are accountable for:
- Engaging students in pluralism learning and experiences;
- Further integrating pluralism into Greenwood’s programming and practices;
- Promoting diversity of thought and perspectives within relevant classroom learning;
- Listening, learning and activating community feedback.
Students engage in pluralism learning through community programming.
Classroom exploration introduces students to diverse perspectives using an unbiased approach, teaching students how to think, not what to think.
This year, we will strive to provide pluralism learning using a more personalized approach. And, we will continue to host two parent/guardian learning groups to share about the various initiatives that the school organizes through affinity spaces, alliances and the Inclusion, Belonging and Pluralism Committee.
Continuing to Reduce Students’ Screen Time
Greenwood continues to emphasize the importance of creating connection in the physical world through face-to-face, human-centered interactions. We will continue to emphasize the importance of “unplugging” on Outdoor Education trips and at school - Greenwood continues to be a mobile device free campus during the school day. Teachers will use multimodal teaching strategies that focus on offline learning tasks and use computers only where appropriate during a lesson. And, staff will be working with students to decrease their laptop use during breaks and at lunchtime.
Uniform
We will continue to prioritize how students wear their uniform and we are looking to add more first-dress days throughout the school year.
