On March 3, I had the opportunity to attend “Ladies Who Lunch” at RBC Capital Markets. At the event, I met 33 like-minded girls from across Toronto. Upon arrival, we were given a tour of the trading floor, where stocks, bonds and currencies are traded for clients around the world. It was exciting to see the rush of this fast-paced potential career.

Next, we were each assigned a female mentor who works for RBC for a one-on-one lunch. At lunch, we discussed our mentors' day-to-day lives as women in capital markets. Specifically, I discussed the diverse set of opportunities beyond post-secondary education within the sphere of capital markets, and the opportunities for internships during university. As the majority of girls were transitioning into postsecondary this fall, we were given tips on how to make the most of networking opportunities and conferences.

This experience furthered my interest in business helped me visualize various possibilities within the industry.

"Ladies Who Lunch" was an incredible opportunity to learn about the finance workplace. Through touring RBC Capital Markets and having a one-on-one lunch with a woman in the workforce, I was able to expand my knowledge as well as make important connections for my future. I learned many valuable things, including how to start a career and what a career in finance entails.

"Ladies Who Lunch" was an overall positive and empowering experience that taught me a lot of helpful lessons about careers in finance.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
