The Screening of Yao at Cinéfranco

On Tuesday, February 18 students in Grade 10 Core French, Grade 11 Enriched French and Grade 7 Core French spent the morning at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema for Cinéfranco, Toronto’s Francophone International Film Festival.

Cinéfranco is considered the most important international film festival in English Canada. The festival promotes the diversity and richness of Francophone movies and exposes the audience to rich French culture and language from around the globe.

At this year’s festival, students watched a movie titled Yao. The story follows a 13-year-old boy from a village in northern Senegal who goes on an adventure to meet his hero: Seydou Tall, a famous French actor and author. The teen makes his way to the capital, Dakar, meets his goal of connecting with Tall and proceeds to return home accompanied by the actor. It is a heartwarming story of cultural experiences and adventures.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
