It was a joy and a heartbreak to gather in our gym to cheer on the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team last week. What a game to witness! We were pleased to surprise our students with a viewing party. While the outcome wasn’t exactly what we hoped (nor for the Men’s Team on Sunday), the game and the Olympics gave us a chance to come together, cheer on Canada and witness people achieve their dreams.
The Olympics provided us with a great reminder of the importance of grace under pressure and resilience, and the fact that sometimes in life, things don’t turn out exactly how we want them to. It’s what we learn from those moments that can really inspire us and help us grow.
The world’s Paralympic athletes are set to begin competing next week in Milano Cortina and we wish them all the best in their Olympic pursuits.
Back here at Greenwood, our own winter athletics season has wrapped up. We will celebrate our teams next week at our Athletics Assembly.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
