Celebrating National Volunteer Week 2026
To celebrate National Volunteer Week, we are highlighting some of the Greenwood volunteers who give their time and talent to our community and beyond.

We asked why they chose to give their time to Greenwood. From our Board of Directors to our students, alumni and parents, the answers all lead back to one thing: a belief in the power of this community.

Here are just a handful of the many, many volunteers who give back to Greenwood or represent Greenwood when they volunteer in our city. To every volunteer who lends their vision, talent, and heart: thank you for making the Greenwood community so special!

Stories from our Community's Volunteers

Tiffany Tan
Parent/Guardian Ambassador

Tiffany Tan
“Choosing a school can feel overwhelming, and what ultimately convinced us to join Greenwood wasn't a brochure or website, but an honest, candid conversation with a Parent Ambassador at the end of a school tour,” said Tiffany Tan. "The volunteer’s willingness to answer questions with honesty and share her experiences built trust and confidence in choosing Greenwood."

“I wanted to ‘pay that forward’ and support future families as they navigated such an important decision,” Tiffany said. She began volunteering as a parent/guardian ambassador. It has been rewarding to speak with prospective families, then see them join the community and watch their child thrive over the years, she said.

“Knowing that I played even a small role in helping a family find a school where they feel happy and supported is incredibly fulfilling,” Tiffany said. “I've valued the friendships I've formed with other parent volunteers along the way; that sense of community and connection has been a meaningful part of the volunteer experience for me.”

For Tiffany, volunteering at Greenwood is a way to show up for a school that has shown up so fully for her children. “It is also an investment in the culture that makes the school so special. Greenwood has given so many students a deep sense of belonging, confidence and an enjoyable place to go to school. Volunteering helps sustain that positive environment and is a meaningful way to help shape the kind of community we want our children to learn and grow up in.”
Sadie Dudkiewicz '27
Key supporter of Greenwood's Reading Buddies Program

Sadie Dudkiewicz '27
Sadie first experienced the joy of volunteering outside of Greenwood while making sandwiches for an organization called “Ve’ahavta.” It made her realize how much she wanted to change people's lives by giving back to her community.

“Greenwood gave me such a good opportunity to do so, and I’ve made so many impactful connections and memories from the service learning experience!”

She says her most rewarding moment while volunteering with Greenwood was when she realized how much the Grade 7’s had trust in her as a leader and felt comfortable asking for her help.

“We were helping out at Davisville Public School when I had multiple Greenwood students come up to me, asking for advice on how to help their kindergarten buddies," Sadie said. "I knew from this moment that I’d succeeded as a leader, and even now it makes me so happy to know that I’m able to help out whenever needed.”

Volunteering is so important for the community as it brings together students with similar interests while providing a service and putting a smile on people’s faces, Sadie says.

“It’s such a fun way to meet all sorts of people in the community and the feeling of doing a good deed is beyond rewarding! I truly think that everyone should be volunteering whether it’s through school or with a local organization.”
Liz Easton
Roundtable Executive and long-time Parent Rep

Liz Easton
Liz Easton began volunteering at Greenwood when her eldest started Grade 7, inspired by the opportunity to gain insight into their school lives and the community around them. All three of her children attended the school.

“Volunteering at Greenwood has been incredibly rewarding and has connected me with parents, students, and staff,” she said. Liz served as a class rep for 10 years and has been on the Roundtable executive committee for the past two.

“One of the most meaningful parts has been creating opportunities for connection and strengthening the community – whether in an official capacity or behind the scenes,” she said. “The Greenwood community has been an impactful part of my family’s life.”

Liz believes volunteering is vital to the sense of community that has always been at the heart of Greenwood. “It creates a shared sense of purpose and belonging; volunteering has enriched my life and given me a better understanding of my children’s experience at Greenwood.”
Allison Chris
Roundtable Parent/Guardian Association President

Allison Chris
Allison’s family joined the Greenwood community in 2023. She says her family has intentionally prioritized school engagement since nursery school.

“Our three kids attended a co-op nursery school and Greg [husband] and I shared volunteering half a day each week with a group of toddlers for many years.” While Allison admits she did not expect to continue engagement during the high-school years, she says the feeling and values of the Greenwood community drew her in.

“The staff, parents/guardians and students at Greenwood share so many different experiences, skills, perspectives and ideas,” Allison says. “Collaboration and learning from others are a highlight for me.”

Volunteering is vital, she says. “Community. Connectedness. Evidence. School connectedness during adolescence has been linked to long-lasting protective effects across multiple positive health and academic outcomes. Parent and guardian engagement is one component known to foster community, strengthen connections and contribute towards overall school connectedness.”
Stephen Bowman
Chair, Board of Directors

Stephen Bowman
Stephen was invited to join the Greenwood College School Board of Directors a few years after two of his children graduated from the school.

“I was delighted to have an opportunity to give back to a school that had been such an important part of our family and had provided such a wonderful environment in which our children grew and flourished,” he recalled. “In short, it was their experience as Greenwood students that inspired me.”

For Stephen, interacting with parents, alumni, students, board members and staff has provided so many rewarding moments of insight, enthusiasm and dedication.

“Schools are a lot more than staff and students coming to school Monday to Friday,” he said. “Parents, alumni and other members of our community who volunteer add an extra dimension of enthusiasm and personal experience that enriches the education experience that is at the core of Greenwood's mission.

“It can all be summed up in one word: community.”
Hope Kearns '10
Alumni Executive Committee volunteer

Hope Kearns
Hope says she enjoyed volunteering at Greenwood as a student, and after graduating from university, she wanted to make sure she stayed connected to the school. Over the past 15 years, she has remained involved with the alumni executive and has participated in Careers Morning several times, speaking about her path to becoming a registered nurse.

“Greenwood has always been a special place, and it’s the close-knit, dedicated community that truly sets it apart. Volunteering plays a key role in keeping that spirit alive. Alumni, in particular, help carry forward the traditions, stories, and shared experiences that connect us all!

I always enjoy coming back to Greenwood—meeting current students while reconnecting with former teachers makes it a really meaningful experience.

Last year’s Alumni Reunion was definitely a highlight. It marked our Class of 2010 15-year reunion and I am the class representative. It was an incredible evening, and being able to experience it not only as an alum but also as part of the planning team made it really special.”
