Grandfriends Day 2016

Kate Raven
Grandfriends Day is always a highlight of the school year for students, staff and families. After meeting their student hosts in the Lodge, Grandfriends headed up to the gym for a special assembly. Guests were treated to a variety of musical performances, speeches and videos, including:
  • Claire Dixon’s (’21) award-winning speech, "Stop Animal Cruelty"
  • The Stage Band's rendition of "No Moon At All"
  • A student-produced video about leadership opportunities at Greenwood
  • A presentation from Sarah Ross ('13) on her experiences as a student-athlete at Acadia University
  • And much more!
Check out the attached photo gallery to see more fantastic acts from the assembly.

Olivia Pestrin (’16) also shared the story of her Greenwood experience and how the school has nurtured her interest in science. Olivia is the first Greenwood student to be accepted to a direct-entry medical program in the UK; she is headed to Scotland this fall to study at the University of St. Andrews.

Afterward, Grandfriends enjoyed a tour of the school, asking questions about the facilities and learning about classes, teachers and extracurricular activities.

Thanks to the staff, student ambassadors and volunteers who made the day a success, and of course, all the Grandfriends who joined us from near and far! We hope to see you again next year (and take you on a tour of our expanded and renovated facility!)

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
