Principal Allan Hardy Tribute Event

Erin Taylor, Communications Officer
Over 280 current and past parents, staff, alumni, and members of the Greenwood community gathered in the gym to honour Principal Allan Hardy. Mr. Hardy will be retiring at the end of this school year, and this tribute evening was an excellent opportunity to look back on Al’s 37-year career as an educator.

Throughout his career, he was an English teacher — in which many of his Grade 12 students were known to say, “Hardy is the party” — coach, and librarian. He championed ideas about personalized education, including through co-authoring a book about affective education, which guided his work here at Greenwood.

Through speeches from members of the Greenwood Board and the community, as well as a video featuring interviews with 20 people who have worked closely with him, attendees looked back on what Allan has accomplished in his 15 years at Greenwood. From championing the school expansion to getting Greenwood dancing with his Friday Morning Songs, they spoke about the impact he has had on the school, its culture, and its direction as well as on its students.

Congratulations to Al for all that he has accomplished, and we wish him all the best in his retirement!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
