This past week, we asked current families to commit to next school year by enrolling their children for 2019-2020. We are so pleased that you have renewed your commitment to the school and continue to entrust Greenwood with the education of your child(ren). We are also excited to have made offers to our new students for the coming year; selecting students from this wonderful group was no easy task. We are grateful to all our applicants for their interest in Greenwood and wish them success.
As I’m sure you’ve guessed from the colourful and creative outfits you’ve seen at home, it’s Spirit Week at Greenwood. I have been observing Greenwood school spirit since my first visit over a year and a half ago, and this week is proving to be super spirited. School spirit is a demonstration of the sense of identity and community shared by our staff, students, parents and alumni.
School spirit manifests itself in many different ways: cheering on teams, wearing your uniform with pride, representing Greenwood at the Conference of Independent Schools Music Festival, or speaking proudly of your school while touring prospective families, to name a few. This week is one more manifestation of that spirit. I look forward to the events of this week and to witnessing the observable pride felt by our community members.
School spirit is often closely associated with good sportsmanship and with good behaviour in and outside of school - both when your behaviour is observed and evaluated, and when no one is watching. School spirit also involves encouraging one another and being inclusive.
In Monday’s assembly, I asked students to help make this Spirit Week one that’s fun for everyone - one that makes us all proud and involves cheering each other on. Thank you to our Student Council and Ms. Porter for their efforts to make this an enjoyable week.
