Grandfriends Day at Greenwood

Andrea McGavin
Grandfriends Day is always a highlight of the school year for students, staff and families. The day got started with a light breakfast in the gym, followed by a special assembly featuring a variety of student talents, including speeches, musical performances, dance and videos. Some highlights included:
  • An award-winning speech on compassion and animals rights
  • Quirky animations created by the Grade 12 Media Arts class
  • A “Sassy” performance by the Greenwood dance team
  • The Guitar Club’s rendition of the Beatles’ “I’ve Just Seen a Face”
  • And much more!
Check out the photo gallery at right to see more fantastic acts from the assembly.

To close the student showcase, Nate Daviau (’15) shared the story of his Greenwood experience and how the school has nurtured his passion for music and prepared him for a career as a professional musician. Nate, along with his friend and fellow Greenwood grad Justin Stangeland (’15), will be headed to Boston next year to study at the prestigious Berklee School of Music.

Afterward, Grandfriends enjoyed a tour of the school, asking questions about the facilities and learning about classes, teachers and extra-curricular activities. This year, they were able to see the construction on the new campus and learn about the exciting features of the new building that will be completed in 2016.

Thanks to the staff, student ambassadors and volunteers who made the day a success, and of course, all the grandparents who joined us from near and far! We hope to see you again next year!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
