Community Outreach: New Circles Community Services

Several Grade 12s spent the week of January 30 participating in community outreach instead of attending Winter OE. For this year’s community outreach program, students helped out at New Circles Community Services. 

New Circles is a nonprofit grassroots organization that supplies clothing and training workshops for those deserving equity. They also provide settlement and employment services for newcomers. Many of their volunteers process and organize the mountains of clothing donations that they receive. A representative from New Circles came to Greenwood on Monday, January 30 to give an orientation and some training. For the rest of the week, Grade 12s worked onsite at New Circles. 

Students sorted through donations, checking each item for stains, tears, rips or any other damage before setting it into the correct category. Later on, students hung the donated clothing onto hooks or hangers and brought them out onto the floor where people can select their clothing. This opportunity gave students the chance to see first-hand their impact for the community and interact with members of the community.
