It has been an exciting and busy year for the Grade 7s and 8s! Whether it was through weekly service learning, athletics, the Grade 8 Niche Expo or the simple school day routine, there were plenty of activities that had middle school students getting involved at Greenwood. On Wednesday, June 3, staff and students gathered in the theatre to celebrate and reminisce on this successful year at the last Middle School Assembly of 2025-26.
The afternoon began with guest appearances from members of the Greenwood community. Mr. Costa, Vice-Principal, Student Support & Well-Being, congratulated the 7s and 8s on a successful year and encouraged them to experience all they could about school, successes and challenges alike. Mr. Barbieri also made an appearance, thanking the students for all their hard work in athletics this year, remarking that, “the kind of enthusiasm they have for sports is what inspired him to be a teacher.”
Even more of Greenwood’s staff were in attendance for the Adviser awards, a segment which recognized students who excelled at task management, engaging with course content and being a positive force within their Adviser groups. The assembly was capped off with a slideshow highlighting the Grade 7s and 8s best moments and memories at Greenwood this year.
The celebrations didn’t stop there, as the school began ramping up for Celebr8 the following week. On Tuesday, June 9, parents/guardians and staff gathered to celebrate the Grade 8 Class of 2030’s completion of middle school and transition into high school this coming fall. Principal Heather Thomas opened up the assembly by congratulating the Grade 8s on the completion of their final evaluations and for a successful two years of middle school. Appearing in a pre-recorded video, the Heads of Student Leadership left the Grade 8s with some parting wisdom on navigating the next chapter of their school life. Mason Kohler ‘26 encouraged the students to get involved with anything that seems of interest to them, even if they feel discouraged at times. Alice Celik ‘26 spoke about her own experiences in Grade 9, explaining that part of high-school is about self-discovery and not being afraid to make mistakes.
The assembly also heard from the current and future Grade representatives of the Class of 2030. Grade 8 reps Henry Mee ‘30 and Asher Rosenberg ‘30 spoke of the bonds they made with their peers and the strength of their group going forward. The Grade 9 reps of the 2026-27 school year, Leo Duviner ‘30 and Carson Zujew ‘30, inspired their peers to write their own story but stressed that “every good story has a strong team behind it” and to remember to rely on each other for the duration of their high school years.
The event was capped off with a slideshow of the Class of 2030’s Grade 7 and 8 years at Greenwood and the Elev8 art showcase. For the showcase, students chose two words to describe their middle school and eventual high school experiences, with these words being laser-printed onto a wooden panel that were then designed by the students.
A huge congratulations to the Grade 7s and 8s for a successful middle school year, and we’re looking forward to seeing the Class of 2030 enter high school this coming fall!
